Construction notes: Oh boy, where do I start? I've never made a costum in 3 weeks that needed to be out of pleather, fully lined, fitted, embroidered, trimmed.... My friend Paul and I entered the World Cosplay Summit Pre-lims in NYC and chose Beatmania. It's a game we both like and admittedly, not very good at. I'm all about rhythmic games, but Beatmania (and Popin' Music) mess with my brain! There are several pieces to this outfit. (Like you couldn't tell! ^^;; ) We bought stretch 2-way pleather from Spandexhouse. It was so nice to work with! I was leary about sewing pleather since I've heard so many horror stories, but really, I had no problems with it. I'm guessing it was the type I used?? Each main piece was patterned via my dressform. The belt, pouches, arm stuuf, leg stuff were measured and cut. I used red stretch cotton for the lining to give it some color. The character has red make-up, so I kept the theme. I also ran top-stitching in red. You can'r really see it in the pic, but I do have pics in the gallery, there are patches that had "Roots26" embroidered on. Ooh aah? >> All pockets are functional. The upper arm bands stay on due to sock glue. :D That stuff is amazing. The shoes were bought from the thrift store, painted and fabric sewn on. I did my best to match the referance material. The wig was simple, for once. I did have to trim the bangs since they were too long. Make up was Ben Nye. I used a really light power foundation product and then some sort of liquid red for the eyes/lips. I don't know much about it. My partner took care of that since he knows more about stage make up. All I know is that it stayed on very well! (I look so pale!!) |
